Maryanne O’Connell 2024
Maryanne O’Connell joined the Club in July 2004; served on the Committee from 2008-2013, including roles as Assistant Secretary 2008, Vice President 2009 & 2013, and President 2010 to 2012. Maryanne quickly demonstrated her ability and willingness to be part of the running of the Club.
After her presidency, Maryanne took on the organization of the Annual Get-Away from 2013 to 2022. The Annual Get-Away remains a cherished event on the Annual Calendar.
Maryanne played in the Pennant Team for 15 years, including 3 winning Nepean teams, and offered invaluable advice and support to the new Pennant members whilst contributing as a valued and fierce competitor herself.
She has won numerous Club golfing trophies over the years, including the Club Championship in (? Maybe 2013) and has won the Margaret King Matchplay twice. In 2009, Maryanne and Barbara Birch won the VGL Women’s Foursomes representing the Club, and again in 2014 with Sue Rowell.
Maryanne’s friendly warm nature is valued both on the golf course and in the clubhouse land her passion for NWGC has significantly impacted the club’s culture and success.
In recognition of over 20 years of dedication to NWGC Maryanne was elected as a Life Member in 2024.
Raylene Grapsas 2017
Raylene Grapsas joined the Club in 2004, and her organisational skills were quickly recognised by the Committee. She served as Secretary from 2006 to 2008, then Assistant Secretary in 2009.
Raylene was the Newsletter Editor from 2008 to 2012 and resumed the role again in 2015 and today is still the co-editor. Her expertise has helped the quarterly newsletter become a vital part of NWGC and members look forward to the Quarterly editions.
Other roles include the VWGL/VGL delegate from 2009 to 2016, Vice President 2010 &2011, Vice-Captain 2012 & 2016, Captain 2013 to 2015, Co-Handicapper in 2017, and Pennant Captain 2015 to 2020. After a few years relinquishing the Pennant Captain role Raylene agreed to take on the role again in 2026.
Along with her organisational skills Raylene also has a long list of golfing achievements which include the Nepean Rose Bowl & President’s Trophy, Junior Veteran’s Trophy, Margaret King Match play, Baby Veteran’s Trophy, President’s Trophy & Nepean Foursomes, and Betty Montgomery Perpetual Trophy.
Raylene received Life Membership in 2017 after 13 years with NWGC and remains actively involved and always willing to help the club in any capacity.
Brig Anderson 2015
Brig Anderson joined our Club in 1995 and has been a constant contributor to all aspects of Nepean life since then.
She joined the committee in 1999 and after 3 years, assumed responsibility for the newsletter until 2007. In 2006 she rejoined the committee as Vice President andbecame President from 2008-2009. For many years Brig was Assistant Co-ordinator for the annual Get-Away which was held in the Murray region and involved a bus trip.Brig also served as a Trustee from 2013 to 2017.
Among her notable achievements, Brig won the B Grade championship in2002 and accumulated various awards over the years, including the President’s Trophy,Medallist of the Year, Margaret King Trophy, Veteran’s Trophy, Nepean Plate, Grandmas Trophy and the Pairs Championship. Additionally, she has represented Nepean in Pennant nearly every year from 2001.
Brig is recognised as a quiet achiever who consistently offers words of encouragement, demonstrating both a strong competitive spirit and an unwavering generosity with her time. Beneath her soft voice lies a strong and competitive spirit; her considerate nature and popularity among fellow members underscores her significant contribution to NWGC.
Brig Anderson was awarded Life membership status in 2015 for these achievements.
Pat Young 2008
Pat Young joined Nepean in 1958, and after 50 years of dedicated involvement she was honoured with Life Membership of the Nepean Women’s Golf Club in 2008. Pat was known for her golfing skills, a result of starting the sport at an early age; a path many hope to follow. In the 1960s, Pat won three B Grade Club Championships and went on to claim three Club Championships during the 1970s. She represented Nepean in various VGLA events and Pennant competitions, playing a key role in the team’s back-to-back A Grade Pennant victories in 1979 and 1980.
Unfortunately, Pat fractured her arm while retrieving a ball near a sprinkler, which affected her ability to play golf. Following this incident, Nepean introduced the ICE (In Case of Emergency) list to improve safety on the course.
